SUNY CantonSUNY Canton College of Technology was established in 1906. It is a public institution dedicated to two- and four-year degrees in health professions, engineering technologies, business, computing, arts & sciences, and criminal justice. The State University of New York College of Technology at Canton is a public, coeducational, residential college located on a spacious campus along the banks of the Grasse River. Dedicated to providing varied educational opportunities within the technologies, SUNY Canton offers 6 curricula leading to bachelor's degrees, 31 programs leading to Associate's degrees and 9 programs leading to one-year certificates. Students number over 2,200 and are taught by a faculty who have both outstanding academic credentials and sound technical experience. Most have on the job professional experience, are licensed in their fields, and are current practitioners in their professions. Academic facilities include seven classroom buildings, containing many specialized labs for practice in technology-based disciplines; Southworth Library, which houses more than 50,000 volumes, over 250 periodical subscriptions and 1,500 tapes and recordings; and the Computer Center, which provides access for all students in open computer labs and networked computer classrooms. All students receive an e-mail account and can access the Internet in the computer labs. Tutoring services were rated #1 in a student survey and are offered free of charge, enabling students to successfully adjust to college-level academic demands. Athletic facilities include the Dana Athletic Center with a gymnasium and fitness center, the new Campus Center with a recreational gymnasium and several high-quality outdoor fields. The athletic fields host SUNY Canton sports teams in football, men's and women's soccer, softball, and lacrosse, while the hockey team plays at the Canton pavilion in the village. There are numerous student clubs, and the Campus Center serves as a clearinghouse for a wide range of cultural and recreational activities. Many SUNY Canton alumni pursue careers in the technologies. Some two-thirds of each graduating class choose to enter productive careers directly after graduation. Each year, around 95 percent of these graduates are successful in finding jobs for which SUNY Canton prepared them. The Alumni Association shows a membership of more than 20,000.
