Great Cultural ExperiencesCanton is home to the St. Lawrence County Historical Association Museum, located in the Silas Wright House. The house includes five period rooms with furnishings from the 1830’s-1870’s, a Main Gallery with changing exhibits on local history, and a Children’s Attic with hands-on history for kids. The Historical Association also operates an archive with numerous resources for local and family history researchers. North Country Public Radio, on WSLU offers award-winning programming from studios in Canton, and is heard from Ottawa to Burlington, Vermont. Canton is also the home to Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY), an “organization devoted to recording and presenting the rich living heritage of customs and folk arts in the fourteen counties of New York’s North Country.” TAUNY maintains Folk Art Exhibits and regional folk culture archives. They also offer craft demonstrations, workshops, and school programs. They operate the North Country Folkstore shop. TAUNY is a membership organization located at 2 West Main Street in Canton. Their phone number is (315) 386-4289. The Richard F. Brush Art Gallery is found on St. Lawrence University’s campus. The Grasse River Players, a community theatre group, stages productions throughout the year. Canton is proud to be a part of a network of unique North Country communities.
